Superb and Very Rare Fairman, Draper, Underwood & Co. 1830 Series Sheet

Fairman, Draper, Underwood & Co., Philadelphia. No. 2. Framed Advertising Sample Sheet. 1830.

Single plate impression. India paper proof, approximately 13-1/4" x 17-1/4". Narrow shaded lathe frame borders with rectangular breaks at centers. Top, numeral "2" and bottom, date "1830." Across center, firm title in white outlined Gothic over dark lathe, lightening towards top and bottom. Symmetrically arrayed elements featuring vignettes used on note, panel lathes with and without denominations, portrait end panels, and small bottom center note vignettes. A boldly printed and vibrant example boasting excellent ink flow across from the large single plate . Some light water staining noticed but hardly effects eye appeal. Very rare and historically important. The highest bidder lands a monumental display piece mapping this important intersection of American artistry and banknote engraving history.

Due to its nature and size, this lot will be available for viewing in our California office only, and the winning bidder will pay actual shipping cost. We encourage interested bidders to contact us for delivery options and cost.

Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500.

Provenance: From the Q. David Bowers Collection.
