In German. The wax seal of the Warsaw tax office is beautifully preserved. Autograph of Walenty Skorochód Majewski (1864–1835), a friend of Kościuszko, who fought in the Uprising at Maciejowice, where he was wounded. Warsaw had been a Prussian city since 1795; consequently, Poles were allowed to remain in government offices, but correspondence was required to be in German. When the Duchy of Warsaw was established, Majewski became director of the Archives of the Republic of Poland; later, he served as a deputy in the Sejm. There is a street named after him in Warsaw. The recipient of the letter regarding the 750 gulden was Kazimierz Wichliński (1758–1822), a lawyer who participated in the Great Sejm and the adoption of the Constitution of May 3, for which he was granted the Skarbicz coat of arms by Stanisław August. During the time of the Duchy of Warsaw, he served as director of the treasury in Warsaw.
