Fan - Louis XV Style - Mother of pearl, Paper - Second half 19th century

Folding fan circa 1850. Double sheet of chromo-lithographed paper, re-watercoloured by hand. Mother-of-pearl frame re-pierced and engraved with a fine decoration of leaves and scrolls, rare presence of a kind of quadriskell on each branch. Gold-plated metal bow enhanced on each side with a rhinestone. The composition is based on the work of Nicolas Lancret and, as usual in Rococo, these are clearly naughty and offhand scenes for the period (note the attitude of the characters, the pronounced pink on the cheeks. . .) . The work could be separated into 5 gallant scenes in a bucolic setting. You can see the houses and towers of a village in the distance, a bridge, a castle and three characters harvesting a field. The main figures pick flowers, make necklaces, play music or flirt more explicitly. The whole is richly lined with gilt scrolls embellished with flowers. On the reverse, two medallions each representing a flirting couple, each of the medallions being presented by a cherub, their respective putti does not have the same colour, as well as their drapery. Opulent gilt surrounds made of bouquets of flowers, scrolls and balusters. Very nice condition, some traces of dirt as well as a very slight trace of restoration on a leaf. See the numerous photos.
