Federal Inlaid Mahogany Card Table,
Tucker & Griffin, Boston, Massachusetts, 1800-10.
Solid mahogany leaf opens to form square top with ovolo corners, the edges inlaid with continuous string-edged patterned band, over a conforming case with horizontal laminated quarter-round front corners, the exterior veneered with crotch mahogany panels surrounded by checkered border and cross banding, the bottom edge of apron lined with diamond pattern inlay continuing around double-tapered legs, which are lined with double string inlay down to the maple-inlaid cuffs with rope borders, the proper right rear leg extending on hinged fly rail to support open top, the underside of fixed leaf retaining paper label of "Cabinet and Chair Manufacturers" Tucker & Griffin, closed, 86cm wide, 43cm deep, 73cm high (34 1/4in wide, 17in deep, 29 1/2in high).
