Federal Inlaid Mahogany Games Table,
possibly Boston, Massachusetts, late 18th century.
Square top of two solid rectangular leaves fitted with single leaf-tenon at center, the open top leaf supported by two fly-legs hinged to central stationary rail, the mortised fly-legs carved to overlap the rounded back corners of the dovetailed apron, which contains a shallow drawer with inlaid string border and escutcheon, one face of the flying legs and two faces of the stationary legs are inlaid with panels and crossbanding, over arched string border centering an inlaid bull's eye and continuing down tapered edges to intersect cuffs of contrasting figured satinwood, surface refinished and period hardware replaced, closed, 93cm wide, 45cm deep, 73cm high (37 1/4in wide, 18 1/4in deep, 29 3/8in high).
