Federal Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer Swell-front Chest of Drawers,
Erastus Grant (1774-1865), Westfield, Massachusetts, 1804.
Single board top with elliptic front veneered at edge and returns, containing four cockbead-molded graduated drawers, the second inscribed "E. Grant Jan\y 10 1804 / Westfield," the case fitted with crossband-veneered stiles and partial dustboards dividing the drawers, closed with horizontal boards at back and bottom, all above string-inlaid and veneered scalloped apron raised on French feet, retaining original Great Seal of United States brasses marked "HJ" for Hands & Jenkins, Birmingham, England, 101cm wide, 58cm deep, 88cm high (40in wide, 23in deep, 35 3/4in high).
