Federico Seneca 1891–1976 Modiano vintage poster

[ translate ]

Caption Brief: "Fluorescent yet inviting, this glowing pasha, the Ottoman Empire's equivalent of a British lord, places his entire concentration on the rolling of the cigarette between his mitten-like fingers, giving the distinct impression that the only rolling paper worthy of such an indulgence is Modiano. It's a very rare and spectacular design—its curves feeding into yet more curves, its color scheme brash but not off-putting, and its brand name spelled out overhead very much in the manner of a neon sign. Additionally, Federico Seneca's art deco potentate calls to mind Turkish tobacco, a design choice that completely unifies the poster and justifies the use of fiery colors—colors that more than accurately echo the hues of smoldering tobacco" (The Art Deco Poster, Crouse, p. 217).
