Circle of Felice Boselli (Piacenza, 1650 – Parma, 1732) , 17th century
Scene with animals and kid
Oil on canvas, 71 x 52 cm - With frame, 81 x 62 cm

The pictorial composition illustrated here can be attributed due to stylistic and formal characteristics to a painter from the circle of the Emilian Felice Boselli (Piacenza, 1650 – Parma, 1732) who was aware of the same research in the field of still life undertaken by Angelo Maria Crivelli, known as Crivellone , (1660 – 1730) and Giovanni Crivelli known as Crivellino.
Felice Boselli trained in the workshop of Michelangelo Nuvolone, younger brother of the better known Giuseppe and Carlo, Boselli was active above all in his hometown and in Parma, where he was a painter at the Court of Sanvitale di Fontanellato until 1710. Although he also tried his hand at in portraits, frescoes and tempera paintings of a religious and mythological nature, we consider Boselli primarily a painter of still lifes.
In the pictorial genre of still lifes his main references were the study and observation of regional and local works depicting genre scenes by painters such as Annibale Carracci and Parmigianino, especially with regard to their figurations. However, there was no shortage of other references, starting from Angelo Crivelli (known as Crivellone) , an animal rights activist specializing in game known during his training period, the painters of the Bergamo school such as Baschenis and Bartolomeo Bettera, up to Nordic ancestry and Neapolitan examples.
As a painter of still lifes, Boselli almost always uses to reproduce game and vegetables but also fish and crustaceans and human beings. In this painting there is a strong influence of that cultural context: a scene is depicted with dead game, such as the candid figure of the kid or the various birds, but also live ones, such as the chickens that can be glimpsed between the bars of the henhouse. Also present although a little hidden is a human figure, who, like some of Felice Boselli's paintings, are linked to a poor environment, they are usually farmers, merchants and humble people.

The frame is provided free of charge, therefore it cannot be a reason for return or complaint.

For paintings purchased abroad: after payment the procedure to obtain the export license (ALC) will be started. All antiques sent abroad from Italy require this document, issued by the Minister of Cultural Heritage. The procedure could take 2 to 4 weeks from the request, therefore, as soon as we have the document the painting will be sent.
