Felicie Waldo Howell, (1897 - 1968)
Watercolor and gouache on paper, showing an elderly woman with a basket and shawl passing the massive front door and steps of a city brownstone, "No. 8". (Note the stone roosters flanking the steps!) Born in Hawaii in 1897, Howell also lived and painted in Washington DC and New York City. Her work can be found in the collections of the National Gallery, Smithsonian Institution and Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and in New York City at the National Arts Club and Metropolitan Museum of Art. Signed lower right, and dated 1921. Frame, approx. 23 3/4" x 19 3/4". Sight, approx. 15 1/2" x 11 1/2".
