Ferahan Silk
West Persia (Iran), c. 210 x 127 cm, late 19th century, an early example of the silk Ferahan group, manufactured with cotton wefts and fine 640,000 kts/sqm, purple-red central medallion with filigree spandrels on ivory-coloured ground, exact knotting with cloth-like feel, very good pile condition with only minor traces of usage, the black-brown border at top displays some tie-ins and is partially corroded down to the foundation, the multicoloured silk fringe border has been filled in on both sides.
