Ferdinand HODLER (1853-1918) oil on canvas The town hall of Wroclaw The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity written and signed by Professor Dr. Em. Johan SWINNEN. Ferdinand Hodler is a Swiss painter born March 14, 1853 in Bern and died May 19, 1918 in Geneva. Hodler is considered the Swiss painter who most marked the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. A friend of Klimt and Jawlensky, admired by Puvis de Chavannes, Rodin and Kandinsky, Hodler was one of the main driving forces behind modernity in Europe during the Belle Epoque. His work, powerful, navigates between realism, symbolism and expressionism. During his career, he touched on all genres, favoring portraiture, landscape, historical and monumental painting and figure compositions. In the case of this work, the writing and the use of colors are close to what is recognized in his general work. The composition is good and there is technical perfection. As a rule, the solemn building, as is the case here, is depicted with delicate color accents. However, the choice of a static building is surprising and strange. But we know he was a free spirit and an experimenter. Finally, the palette also corresponds to that of the artist, especially with regard to earth colors. - Weight: 1.82 kg - Region: Suisse - Sizes: H 600MM 720MM - Author / artist: Ferdinand HODLER
