Fine Bukhara Carpet
4'1" x 6'5"
Hand-knotted carpet of Bukhara design, the indigo field with two columns of stepped lozenge guls in orange, ivory and brown, each gul outlined in serrated hooks. Framed by multiple borders of small geometric motifs with ivory-ground cruciform guard stripes. Wool pile, with plain-woven end webs and fringe at both ends. Pakistani, ca. 2000's
The perceived colors of a carpet depend on monitor calibration, the diffraction of light from the carpet pile, and human color perception.
Condition: Very Good, with little evidence of use. Wool pile full and even throughout; design crisp and colors strong, with no low or bare areas, holes or moth damage observed. Fringes present, clean and even at both ends with the plain-woven end webs intact; selvedges secure. Reverse shows an even, regular weave with a few loose threads but no repairs, patching or reweaving. No staining or water marks noted. Lies flat and square.
