Fine Early 19th C. Indian Brass Seated Lakshmi
Central Asia, India, ca. first half of 19th century CE. A beautiful cast-brass figure depicting Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, good fortune, and prosperity as well as the eternal consort of Vishnu. Lakshmi sits in a half-lotus position atop an integral domed lotus base and wears form-fitting pants with incised decorations, an ornate belt, cuffs around her wrists and upper arms, and 'beaded' necklaces bearing a large central pendant that hangs between her breasts. Her serene countenance presents with ovoid eyes beneath thin brows, an arrow-shaped nose, full lips, and massive earrings on her ears, all beneath a tiered headdress framed by a coronal halo. Fine brown patina covers the entire figure. Size: 3" W x 4.875" H (7.6 cm x 12.4 cm)
