Fine Egyptian Glazed Faience Bead Necklace

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A lovely necklace constructed with dozens of faience beads glazed in hues of crimson, citrine, sage, turquoise, cobalt, coffee, forest, fuchsia, maroon, and jet. Groups of petite seed beads are flanked on either side with longer tubular beads, and in between the faience tubes are modern gold-plated glass beads. Strung in modern times and capped on the terminals with a gold-plated loop and lobster clasp combo, this is an attractive necklace that is ready to wear on any occasion! Size (necklace): 27.25" L (69.2 cm); (largest bead): 0.45" L (1.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Shenas collection, New York, USA; ex-Nomis Antiques, Switzerland, acquired around 1970

Condition Report: Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Faience beads are ancient, and stringing, gold-plated components, and gold-plated glass beads are modern. Minor nicks and abrasions to some faience beads, with light pitting, and fading to original glaze color of some beads, otherwise intact and very good. Smooth patina throughout, and great glaze remains on faience beads.
