Fine Federal Upholstered Carved Mahogany Sofa
Fine Federal Upholstered Carved Mahogany Sofa, New York or Philadelphia, c. 1805-15, the scroll back with cresting carved with long leafy stems tied with a ribbon, flanked by acanthus leaves and rosette terminals continuing to scrolled arms carved in the same manner, on inward-scrolling carved supports, all on ring-turned reeded legs, ht. 36 3/4, wd. 78, dp. 30 1/2 in.
Estimate $2,000-4,000
The current underupholstery is affixed to a central support brace rail that runs perpendicular to the front and rear rails. It is hard to tell if there was ever a third leg at the center of the rear rail, but it is certainly possible that one leg was removed at some point.
There is a screw in the top of one arm to help repair a break. One front foot is particularly worn.
Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
