Fine French Belle Epoque Carved Rosewood Three Piece Bedroom Suite, late 19th c., Paris, consisting of a triple door armoire, a double bed, and a marble top nightstand, the lobbed finialed ends flanking vasiform balustrade, the elaborate scrolled shield cabochon crest with floral scrolls, bracketed fluted columnar supports, with acanthus collar, ring turned segments, reeded bottoms, the breakfront armoire with three spandrel decorated beveled mirror doors, fitted with a birds eye maple interior ,over a stepped base with three drawers, on toupie feet, the arched crotched headboard with an egg and floral carved crest, flanked by balustrades to a conforming footboard capped with a astragal stepped rail, centered by a shell crowned relief carved maiden bust, over shell and foliate carved panels, the nightstand with dished inset figured rouge marble top, over single drawer over marble lined lower cabinet, to a lower shelf with side galleries, on casters, Armoire- H.- 103 in., W.- 87 in., D.- 22 in.; Bed- H.- 66 in., Int.- W.- 52 in., Int.- L.- 77 in.; Nightstand- H.- 34 in., W.- 16 1/2 in., D.- 15 1/2 in. (3 Pcs.) Provenance: The Estate of Jay Calamia, property from the Dufour-Plassan House, New Orleans, Louisiana. Note: this suite was made in France about 1875 for Elizabeth Bentley of Mississippi, she was the first female to serve on the New Orleans Cotton Exchange. Later retailed by M.S. Rau in the 1990's.
