Fine Japanese Satsuma Foliate Rim Plate 8.25''x1.75''. Museum quality gilt and polychrome decorated dish with central parade or processional with elephant. Rim has six repeating female musicians riding three-clawed dragons. Elaborate hand fan and scroll maki-e gold inscription on verso. A few tiny glaze flakes to top rim underside. Overall excellent condition. Late 19th century, Meiji period. Similar in quality to the work of Yabu Meizan.
Condition Report: It does have a few tiny places of slight roughness to the underside of the rim. Also there are tiny holes pierced in the rim (original to manufacture). On the verso there is a tiny hairline from the rim to one of those holes.
