Fine Luristan Bronze Dagger w/ Bone Handle

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A cast-bronze dagger with a slender tang and an elongated triangular blade with a shallow midrib, sharpened edges, and a pointed tip. The tang is covered on both sides with modern, form-fitting panels - carved from cow bone or that of another ungulate - that provide for a smooth yet ample gripping surface. Size: 13.7" L x 1.1" W (34.8 cm x 2.8 cm).

Provenance: private Davis collection, Houston, Texas, USA, acquired prior to 2013; ex-private County Kerry, Ireland collection; ex-private English collection

Condition Report: Bone panels on handle are modern. Very slight bending to overall form of blade, with minor nicks and encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and patina throughout.
