Fine Moche Copper Tumi

[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A fine example of a cast-copper tumi, a type of ceremonial knife. The ritual tool has a trapezoidal handle with pointed corners as well as a semicircular blade head with a sharpened edge. Ample textured patterns across both sides suggest that this tool was placed atop a textile fabric as a funerary offering, and green patina has formed around the individual dimples. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 4.6" W x 7.9" H (11.7 cm x 20.1 cm)

Provenance: private Lyons, Colorado, USA collection acquired prior to 1970

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

Display stands not described as included/custom in the item description are for photography purposes only and will not be included with the item upon shipping.

#149264
Condition Report: Minor chips to patina on blade head and handle, with very slight bending to overall form of handle points, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and great patina throughout.
