Fine Viking Bronze Bracelet, Bovine Creatures

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $800**

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. A beautiful bracelet shaped from a sheet of hammered bronze that achieved a broad, ovoid form. Presented along the terminals of the curved rectangular panel are two abstract bovine creatures with wide faces bearing inverted teardrop-shaped eyes, sizable snouts with impressed nostrils, and massive forepaws held on either side. Each zoomorph displays three zigzagging locks of a mane that are enclosed within a set of lengthy horns. Areas of matte green and brown patina cover much of the topside but leave the animalistic imagery mostly unperturbed. Size: 2.3" W x 1.8" H (5.8 cm x 4.6 cm); (wrist opening): 1.2" W (3 cm); total weight: 74.3 grams.

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

Display stands not described as included/custom in the item description are for photography purposes only and will not be included with the item upon shipping.

#158114
Condition Report: Wearable as shown. Very slight bending to overall form, with minor softening to some finer details, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation of zoomorphic imagery and nice patina throughout.
