The inscription translating to This ending spouse, as Johannes Schmit and his homemaker Catrina, was born a son as: Johannes was born in the year of our Lord Jesus 1778 on the 17th day of January at 1:00 in the morning under the sign of the Virgin.
Sight 13 1/8 in. by 16 3/8 in.

Condition Report:
In overall very fine condition, examined out of frame. With some edge wear, light water staining, and toning throughout. Comprising of printed and handwritten text. All four corners appear to have been restored and replaced. Hinged at corners. Some minor replacements around the edges. The top center edge with a large replaced area 3 1/2 by 1/2 inches and includes the tip of the tulip. The top edge appears to be slightly cropped. Considerable edge wear. Some areas of foxing and cracking of paint. Slight buckling to the work and light creases.
