Leipzig, ca. 1900, movement marked Firma Kraft-Behrens, on the dial marked "gesetzlich geschützt", case made of solid walnut, stained reddish, the surface with finely carved thistle decoration, stained green and gold contoured, silvered dial with etched decoration, Seascape in the sunrise, partly painted, bronze pendulum lens with an art nouveau lady in relief, holding an hourglass, half hour strike on a clay spiral, working, with key, in very good original condition, h 90 cm.
Info: The company Kraft-Behrens was founded in 1891 by Adolph Kraft-Behrens in Leipzig as a manufacturer of watch cases. The watch cases, which were awarded prizes at various exhibitions, were completed with purchased movements and some were sold with self-marked movements. The word mark used was the letter "B" on a flag or the word "pike" on a fish. Around 1900, approximately 25,000 watches were produced annually, which made the company one of the largest contemporary Leipzig watch manufacturers.
