Two parts bound as one with Triomphi del Petrarcha with separate half title. Venice: Giovanniantonio & Fratelli da Sabbio, 1525. In later blind stamped morocco boards, with raised bands on spine. 4to; AA8 BB4 A-Y8 Z1,2,7* Aa-Bb8* Cc4 a-f8 g10 (10 blank) (missing Z3-6, Z8, and Aa1, with (3) later leaves bound in). Italic type; text in Italian. With double-page detailed map of Avignon (where Petrarch lived much of his life) (AA4v and AA5r). Edit16 32255; USTC 847830.

Alessandro Vellutello (Italian, 1473-1550) was a scholar and writer best known for his commentary on Petrarch which was successful during his lifetime and extremely influential. Although originally from Lucca, he fled to Venice to escape conflict in Milan in 1525 and published his commentary that same year.

Condition Report: Covers scuffed and marked, corners rubbed and bent, wear at joints with cracking and associated partial separation of boards, spine worn with leather loss at head and tail; toning and damp staining, with occasional marginalia or underlining, wormhole, chip, small tear, or bent corner; g2-g10 with burned corner, lacking front flyleaf. Most pages clean and crisp; map with light staining and small wormhole on both pages, otherwise in good condition.
