Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was the first American writer to offer a complete translation of Dante's The Divine Comedy. The first American edition was published in Boston the same year, although likely just after this Tauchnitz edition, and Longfellow kept the Tauchnitz edition of the set in his own collection. This title is volume 901-903 of Tauchnitz's "Collection of British Authors."

Condition Report: Boards scuffed, with edgewear, and vellum with discoloration and foxing, boards mildly bowed; pages toned, scattered foxing, Vol. I with light staining at endpapers. An overall very good and sturdy set.
