Five Miniature Egyptian Glazed Faience Amulets

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 1070 to 30 BCE. An ensemble of 5 intriguing faience amulets from ancient Egypt. First is a petite amulet of a wadjet (also wedjat or Eye of Horus), and the second is a dark-blue quadruple wadjet amulet. Third is a pair of rearing cobras that form a hollow tube between their backs, and the fourth is a bovine leg intended as an offering of sustenance for the dead. The largest is a faience hand, perhaps intended as a severed hand of an enemy or a physical gesture of welcome. Size of largest (severed hand): 1.03" L x 0.4" W x 0.22" H (2.6 cm x 1 cm x 0.6 cm)
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
