Five items of Meissen porcelain from an Imari style tea service

Comprising a teapot with domed lid and floral finial, cups with corresponding angular J-shaped handles and original saucers. Decorated with alternating fields of gilt trellis pattern on brown ground and flowering prunus sprigs. Blue crossed swords mark, the base of the teapot unglazed, dreher's mark 23 (saucers) and 24 (cups). A crack in the base of the handle of the teapot and one cup, the spout and one saucer with rim chips. H teapot 12.5 cm.
Circa 1740.

Provenance

The teapot acquired from Christie´s London on 1st July 1985, lot 189.
The cups and saucers aquired in 1985 from Heinz Reichert, Munich.
