Five various needlework seat covers
Five various needlework seat covers, to include a George II vibrant red ground embroidered seat panel incorporating a flowering urn, mid 18th century, a George III blue ground example embroidered with flowers, a pair of needlework seat covers, English or French, late 19th / early 20th century, and one other example worked in polychrome with flowers and foliage on a cream ground, mid 18th century and later, the largest approximately 79 x 63cm overall
Condition Report:
Each of the seat covers has minor wear and tear overall commensurate with age and use, including in some cases colour fading. Each cover has a relatively irregular outline where they were once removed from seats. The blue example has some restored/strengthened patches along the left hand side including larger section of circa 15cm, and another diagonal section ot the lower right corner. The needlework itself is quite well preserved overall The red example is incredibly vibrant and the colours are overall quite strong. Some moth damage and fraying overall including, most significantly, to the central rosette of the flowering vase. A handful of horizontal rips overall. The weave is a little thinner in places commensurate with age and use. This example has been backed with a secondary, later fabric, and areas may have been strengthened with later stitching. The cream examples each have some minor moth damage and thinning, however these are still quite sturdy.
