This subject, frequently depicted in 17th century art (Genesis 24:17-18), shows Rebecca's encounter with the messenger Eliezer, who was sent by Abraham to find a wife for his son Isaac. The choice fell on Rebecca because she was the first to give Eliezer a drink and thus proved herself to be a suitable bride.
