Flemish School late 16th century - Christ Preaching to a Rich Man
Flemish School late 16th century
Christ Preaching to a Rich Man
Oil on canvas (relined). 98 x 192 cm.
In the centre of this densely populated city view, presumably intended to depict Jerusalem, we see a group of figures with a man petitioning Christ for his advice. The picture's meaning first becomes clear when we observe the groups of figures surrounding the central group. These depict earthly life, whilst Christ advises the man to observe abstinence.
