Flemish architrave, ca. 1650. Ebony wood, ivory and tortoiseshell.

Flemish architrave, ca. 1650.
Ebony wood, ivory and tortoiseshell.
Measures: 53,5 x 73,5 x 35,5 cm.
Flemish chest with uncovered sample and prismatic structure. The decoration is concentrated on the front, divided into three lanes. The lateral ones house three equal drawers, with the front ornamented with rectangular and quadrangular tortoiseshell veneers, with molded rows between the shelves. This decoration of the shelves has an effect on the compartmentalization of the structure, seeking compositional clarity through the marking of the different parts of the structure, an aspect that demonstrates that we are dealing with an advanced baroque bargueño, tending towards the purification of forms, without excessive ornamentation. The central street, on the other hand, has a large central chapel that continues the decoration of the rest of the front. Inside, this compartment has four drawers without decoration, without lining. The sides of the cabinet are reduced to geometric grooves made with inlaid fillets of lighter wood.
