A Flemish carved marble figure of Andromeda, first half 17th century
Partially freestanding, the lower section of the reverse flattened. Model of Andromeda bound to a rock rising from the sea, designed for a frontal viewpoint. Although the seamonster Ketos sent by Poseidon to devour her is shown at her feet, Andromeda was later rescued by Perseus.
The front border below the seamonster reattached, Andromeda's left foot partially lost. Minor signs of weathering and wear throughout. 45.5 x 26 x 25 cm.
