Pair of oil on copper of religious theme that, by the dimensions and their images, surely were part of a bigger set, destined to the private devotion. In one of the images we can appreciate the moment in which the biblical patriarch Jacob meets his future wife, Rachel. The biblical text narrates that, while Jacob was with his sheep, he saw for the first time his cousin Rachel, who was by a well, and fell in love with her instantly. While the other image shows Rebecca and Sarah, Isaac's wife and mother.
Due to their physical and formal characteristics, these works belong to the Antwerp School, characterized by the achievement of a balanced synthesis between the Flemish tradition and the influence of the Italian Renaissance. In the seventeenth century the city experienced an artistic renaissance that made it the artistic stronghold of the Flemish Baroque under the workshops of Peter Paul Rubens, Jacob Jordaens and the influence of Anton van Dyck or Paul Bril.
