Fluorite Ozark-Mahoning Mine, Ozark-Mahoning group Cave-in-Rock, Cave-In-Rock Sub-District, Hardin Co. Illinois, USA This is a beautiful bright yellow Fluorite from Illinois. This large platey specimen features massive cubic interwoven crystals and displays amazing color "zoning" as the edges are a light gray-blue with hints of purple. The crystal faces are extremely sharp with nice, natural etchings. The largest crystal measures 2.65 inches (6.72 cm) across, and the entire piece is translucent, so it really comes to life when backlit. There is a nice sprinkling of metallic golden Chalcopyrite and white Calcite crystals finishing off the piece. This is a great "gemmy" specimen with a particularly appealing color and an amazing luster. Illinois is one of the most famous localities for Fluorite in the world, and it is easy to understand with this collector-grade example. Overall Measurements: 5.81 x 5.20 x 2.59 inches (14.76 x 13.20 x 6.58 cm) Provenance: Central Coast Collection [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
