Fluorite Purple Rain Pocket, Fairy Hole Vein, Lady Annabella Mine, Eastgate Quarry, Eastgate, Stanhope, County Durham, England, UK 9.7 x 6.8 x 4.3 cm (3.82 x 2.68 x 1.69 in) The Fluorite’s deep purple color, along with the constant rainfall that occurred while mining this pocket, are precisely what gave the Purple Rain Pocket its name. The larger crystals in this small-cabinet sized floater not only show the pocket’s iconic purple color but have a white, frosted appearance that provides a nice contrast. While most of this specimen lives up to the name, some of the smaller Fluorite cubes have a watery-clear green center that is more visible with backlighting. The rear view of the specimen presents folded bands of iron formations, which create an interesting pattern with the Fluorite’s intense fluorescence.
