Fluorite on Stibnite Bor Thong Mine, Ban Bo...

[ translate ]

Fluorite on Stibnite Bor Thong Mine, Ban Bo Thong, Prachin Buri Province, Thailand "Mainly two stibnite crystals up to 7 inches long coated with translucent gray somewhat sparkling botryoidal translucent fluorite. Bought from Terrence Coldham before the Tucson show. All of the specimens had some or a lot of damage. Albert Chapman got the best ones before he sent the lot to the United States. The material was shipped to Australia before it was sent to the USA for one of the Tucson shows and the best of them were grabbed up by the Australians. The one I got is pretty good because I was successful in trimming it out of a larger specimen." - Rock H. Currier Anybody seen any production from this locality, lately? So many discoveries are like hit songs: 'one time wonders' that sink like a (rock???) never to be seen/heard from again. This Thai locality was probably worked for the Antimony content from the Stibnite. Chances are, it was not a paying proposition and it has faded back into the jungle. While it was going, a few of these oddities emerged, and as Rock stated they were grabbed up by the Aussies. The combination of Fluorite overcoating Stibnite is an engagingly unusual one and was sufficient to engage Rock's attention. No dummy, he figured out that if he was going to have a decently undamaged example, he'd have to trim a distressed one down. He did and here we are. There's a custom acrylic base to hold these unusual specimens upright. Overall Measurements: 7.5 x 1.4 x 1.0 inches (19.0 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Bought from Terrence Coldham [RHC #4679, acquired 1987] [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
