Folk art, corner cabinet in North Holland style - Softwood, polychrome painted - late 18th / early 19th century
Rare copy of a typical North Holland tradition of painting furniture as a painting. These cabinets are always made of coniferous wood because they are made for this purpose. You can find them in Zuid-Holland or Noord-Holland, especially around Haarlem, Amsterdam and the Zaanstreek. This has nothing to do with the more famous Hindelopen. Painting furniture as a painting, sometimes larger ones, happened from the 17th century onwards.
