A magnificent 18th century full-length portrait of Frederick 1 of Prussia which has been previously attributed to Antoine Pesne ( 1683 – 1757) . The painting was acquired on that basis from Busby Auctioneers last year however it is being offered as by a follower of of Antoine Pesne having been assessed by the current auction expert and also due to limited provenance being available. The overall dimensions of the later frame are 89 . 5 cm x 55. 5 cm x 6. 5 cm and the showing canvas within the front of the aperture measures 74. 3 cm x 51 cm The painting has undergone some restoration in it's history and has been lined and restored we think within the last 20 years and display wonderful depth of colour and tonality. It is in excellent condition and the canvas has good tension. The painting is housed in a later 20th Century frame; probably chosen for the painting after it's restoration . We acquired the painting last year from a reputable auction house in the UK but the provenance was indicated to us to come from the Vendor via the auctioneers Bu**by's auctioneers who indicated that they was an historical connection between their client and a leading London auction house and that they had been informed that the painting had been acquired in about 2010 from a London house. There are two auction labels to the verso which we will leave intact as part of the provenance and for future reference if required. We asked for further provenance from the auctioneers but that was all that was available to us when we acquired the painting. We will issue a Certificate of Authenticity with this painting. We cannot guarantee safe shipping of antique picture frames.
