Oil on a small wooden panel. The panel is formed from a single board with the woodgrain running horizontally. There are two splits which have formed across the panel running horizontally from the left hand side. The panel has been set into a small wooden tray with the edges covered (hidden by the frame) The back of the tray is visible at the reverse, made from oak with a vertical woodgrain which has developed severe cracks. The paint layer has a network of age cracks, some are slightly raised but all are stable. The varnish is semi-matte and clear. There are areas of overpaint across the painting which are reasonably well matched to the original.
