(Italian, 1703?1772)The Thames from Somerset House Terrace Towards Westminster, after the composition by Canaletto (Italian, 1697?1768), unsigned, oil on canvas, 24-1/4 x 38 in.; Kent style painted and parcel gilt wood frame, 31-7/8 x 46 in.Note: The frame plate gives an attribution to Samuel Scott who adopted the style of the important Venetian painter, Canaletto. Canaletto established a studio in Britain to answer the demand for his paintings from wealthy art collectors. Beginning in 1746 he painted views of the Thames at London and Windsor.
