The painting is executed in oil on a linen canvas support which has been lined. The lining has secured old tears and damages to the canvas although these are still evident across the surface. There are scattered old losses present, although the paint layer does not appear to be actively flaking. Old areas of overpaint are dark and glossy compared to the surrounding paint layers. The varnish is dull and not adequately saturating the paint layers.
