Mike Watt earned a reputation as a fierce musician and thoroughly decent guy as a member of the Minutemen, and later, Firehose. His first solo album, Ball-Hog or Tugboat? featured many of the friends he'd made in his career. The three bands on this bill toured the U.S. together. Hovercraft was a duo of Beth Leibling and her then-husband, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. Foo Fighters, then a four-piece band, were on their first national tour.
