Forrest Moses was an American painter known for abstracted landscapes that evoke the rhythms and atmosphere of nature. Born in Danville, Virginia, he studied fine art at Washington and Lee University and later attended Pratt Institute before settling in Santa Fe in 1969. Influenced by Japanese aesthetics and extensive travel, he developed a fluid style combining expressive brushwork, delicate lines, and layered color. His paintings and monotypes suggest forests, water, and changing seasons, emphasizing the experience of a place through movement, light, and space. His work reflects a lifelong interest in the relationship between close observation and abstraction.
