Fossil Fern (Positive/Negative) Crenulopteris acadica Pennsylvanian Francis Creek Shale Mazon Creek Area, Will County, Illinois, USA Out of the iconic Mazon Creek locality in Illinois, this pair of positive/negative fossil ferns preserved in an oval nodule has been revealed to display outstanding preservation, details, and colors. One half is slightly deeper than the other, but both have an attractive brownish coloration and numerous individual leaves. Each rock remnant measures 9 inches (23 cm) in length and boasts dimensional texture over the surface. The exterior of the rock shells exhibits gray cement-like color and texture, with one being more mottled.
