Fossil Fish Plate Nematonotus longispinus Cretaceous Lebanon This delightful irregular sedimentary plate containing a trio of fossil fish out of Lebanon is yellowish-tan and houses three finer examples of Nematonotus. The plate features fish of varying sizes positioned in various directions; the representation dates to the Cretaceous some 100 million years ago. Substantial dorsal fins and very detailed caudal fins characterize this variety of fish. As with most fossils from the famous quarries, little restoration is visible. The largest of the three measures over 3 inches (7.6 cm) in length and each shows an elongated first ray extending from its fin, indicative of it being of the aptly named longispinus species. The rustic triad exhibits nice detail, golden-brown coloration, and dynamic nature – as if still in motion in some ancient sea.
