Fossil Starfish "Brittle Star" Pentasteria lonispina Ordovician Ktaoua Formation Mecissi, Sahara Desert, Morocco 5.39 x 4.42 x 0.84 inches (13.70 x 11.22 x 2.13 cm) This "Brittle Star" actually features a trio of the five-armed echinoderms. Similar to the modern-day starfish, these Pentasteria examples are fluid and dynamic with round cores, sectioned ‘whip-like’ arms, and a combination of golden-brown as well as orangey coloration. This large plate is a great association with the floral-looking aquatic creatures appearing as if dancing together. The natural grayish matrix is a nice background for these "stars."
