Fossil Stingray Heliobatis radians Eocene Green River Formation Wyoming, USA A classic Fossil Stingray from the beloved Green River Formation, this example of a Heliobatis measures some 15 inches (38 cm) from tip to tail. Boasting a pronounced curve as if gliding through the waters of some ancient lake, this freshwater chondrichthyan looks like modern examples of today. The brown and gold fossil contrasts nicely with the yellowish and tan background which has been reinforced with wood. The expertly restored fossil, cut out of a once much larger mural, displays an elongated whiptail with at least two visible stinger barbs. The body is solid, and its broad radial fin exhibits a lot of veinous details.
