Fossilized Megalodon Tooth Polished Enamel

[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 2.6 million years ago. A fossilized tooth from a prehistoric megalodon shark, the largest fish and/or shark that ever existed! The tooth is highly polished on the obverse face to reveal the underlayers of the stone matrix that are normally covered with the enamel. Here, the light gray enamel remains close to the bourlette, while the rest has worn down, the espresso brown of the matrix exposed on the tip, as if this tooth was dipped in chocolate! The teeth from megalodons are the most sought after and desirable of all shark remains, due to the sheer size and wow factor that these fossils impart. To put into perspective, megalodons had about 4-5 rows of these teeth - about 276 total - and their jaws had enough strength to crush a small car! Despite these frightening revelations, this tooth is quite pleasantly tactile with lovely coloration! Size: 4.01" L x 3.14" W (10.2 cm x 8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Savannah, Georgia, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
