Fossilized Morocanites Trilobite w/ Matrix

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $450**

Ancient Seas, Morocco, Alnif, Hamar Laghdad Formation, Devonian period, ca. 419.2 to 358.9 million years ago. A fabulous fossilized trilobite upon a stone matrix with great preparation! From the front of the cephalon is a single horn or tusk that easily distinguishes this genus of trilobite as Morocanites malladoides. This fossil is prepared with the body almost entirely excavated from matrix, slightly raised above the surrounding stone, with the cephalon almost completely free. The details are remarkably preserved; note that the eye lobes retain their textured, bumpy surface. The black hues of this fossilized "sea bug" contrasts beautifully with the lighter matrix stone. Size of trilobite: 3.5" L x 1.5" W (8.9 cm x 3.8 cm); matrix: 2.5" L x 3.25" W (6.4 cm x 8.3 cm); case: 5.125" L x 4.125" W x 3.25" H (13 cm x 10.5 cm x 8.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
