Fossilized Trilobites in Matrix w/ Pyrite Brachiopod

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $400**

North America, Midwestern United States, Ohio, Paleozoic period, ca. 300 to 400 million years ago. A pair of two slate matrixes containing a trilobite fossil in each and a brachiopod that is prepared and mounted on top of one matrix. This brachiopod is specifically a Paraspirifer bownockeri, here presented with closed valves. The exterior has developed glittering pyrite which certainly adds some allure to this prehistoric mollusk! Almost directly under the brachiopod is a trilobite fossil, specifically a Phacops rana milleri, that has retained much of its texture; note those bumpy eye facets! The second slate matrix also contains a trilobite fossil of a species known as Flexicalymene meeki. The ridges of the spines in this specimen are also nicely preserved. Size matrix of single trilobite: 5" L x 3" W (12.7 cm x 7.6 cm); matrix with brachiopod: 3.25" L x 3" W (8.3 cm x 7.6 cm)

Display stand shown in photos is for photography purposes only.
