third quarter of the 19th century; the first a serving spoon marked "Sterling" and retailed by W. J. Behan, the handle surmounted by a bold suppressed knop upon which a bird with spread wings perches, the elongated bowl with bright cut engraving, no monogram (9 1/2 in.) (small dent to one decorative edge at top of bowl, small fissures to decorative edge at top of bowl on each side, minor shallow dent and light scratching to handle); the second a sauce ladle marked "Sterling" and retailed by Browne & Spaulding of New York (active circa 1864-1871), the handle terminus featuring a domed top with period monogram (8 3/4 in.) (light scratching); the third a coin silver parcel gilt ice cream slice with mark of Wood & Hughes, domed terminus to handle, bright cut botanical engraving against an engine turned engraved background on blade, no monogram (10 1/2 in.) (small dents to hollow handle below domed cap); and the fourth a very finely constructed and designed server featuring foliate motif cutwork above blade, delicately chased paisley style scrollwork to hollow terminus of handle, and period bright cut embellished monogram to gilt blade, marked "Sterling" (10 1/4 in.) (light scratching).
